A Family Tradition,

The Family Behind the Honey

Three Generations.
One Family Tradition.

Blue Hills Honey remains proudly family owned and operated.

Our story began with Reuben and Beryl Charles, who built the foundations of the business around a simple belief: quality comes first.

More than seven decades later, that same commitment continues through the Charles family today.

Where It All Began

The Charles Family Story

1955

Reuben and Beryl Charles established their honey business in Tasmania, growing their operation to around 1,600 hives and becoming a major Tasmanian bulk honey producer.

Their early years established the values that still shape Blue Hills Honey today:

  • Hard work.
  • Quality.
  • Family.

The Next Generation

Keeping the Family Business Growing

As Blue Hills Honey grew, the next generation became increasingly involved.

In 1996, Robbie Charles began managing the business. In 2003, Robbie married Nicola, who joined the business as Business Manager, Sales and Marketing.

Together, they have continued to develop the family business while maintaining the values established by Reuben and Beryl.

Our Farm

Where Family & Honey Come Together

Our farm and honey facilities in Mawbanna, northwest Tasmania, are at the heart of Blue Hills Honey.

This is where generations of knowledge meet the practical work of beekeeping, honey processing and packing.

It’s more than a workplace.

It’s home.

A Family Business With a Global Reach

From Tasmania to the World

What started as a Tasmanian family business has grown into an operation serving customers and markets beyond Australia.

Blue Hills became the first Australian firm to export honey to Japan in 1960, marking an important milestone in the family’s history.
