Frequently Questions
Your Questions, Answered
From crystallisation and storage to our bees, honey varieties and cold extraction process, we’ve answered some of the most common questions about Blue Hills Honey.
Our honey is 100% pure and natural with no additives. All good honey naturally contains very small traces of bee pollen, which is highly sought after for its nutritional value.
On average, a Blue Hills leatherwood hive contains 80,000 to 100,000 bees.
Crystallisation is a completely natural process and a sign of pure honey. If you prefer it runny, stand the jar in warm (not hot) water and stir gently until the crystals dissolve.
Stored with the lid on in a cool, dry place, honey keeps for a very long time. Each jar carries a best-before date as a guide.
Honey is a natural food made by bees, with nothing added. For advice about your own diet, we recommend speaking with a health professional.
Our beekeepers place hives where the bees can forage on specific flowering plants during their flowering season, and our quality assurance and certification programmes back what is in every jar.
Active honey refers to honey with naturally occurring activity, such as the MGO content found in Manuka honey. Blue Hills tests and measures the MGO content of its Manuka honey so the level can be identified on the jar.
Raw honey is honey that has been handled as little as possible. Our honey is cold extracted, coarse filtered and kept below 45°C to preserve its natural flavours and aromas.
