The Family Behind the Honey
Blue Hills Honey remains proudly family owned and operated.
Our story began with Reuben and Beryl Charles, who built the foundations of the business around a simple belief: quality comes first.
More than seven decades later, that same commitment continues through the Charles family today.
Where It All Began
1955
Reuben and Beryl Charles established their honey business in Tasmania, growing their operation to around 1,600 hives and becoming a major Tasmanian bulk honey producer.
Their early years established the values that still shape Blue Hills Honey today:
The Next Generation
As Blue Hills Honey grew, the next generation became increasingly involved.
In 1996, Robbie Charles began managing the business. In 2003, Robbie married Nicola, who joined the business as Business Manager, Sales and Marketing.
Together, they have continued to develop the family business while maintaining the values established by Reuben and Beryl.
Today’s Blue Hills Family
Robbie and Nicola continue to lead Blue Hills Honey, building on the family heritage while guiding the business into its next chapter.
The family tradition continues with Ella and Thomas growing up alongside the business.
Our Farm
Our farm and honey facilities in Mawbanna, northwest Tasmania, are at the heart of Blue Hills Honey.
This is where generations of knowledge meet the practical work of beekeeping, honey processing and packing.
It’s more than a workplace.
It’s home.
Where our beekeeping journey begins.
Where our honey is carefully processed.
Where our honey is prepared for customers around the world.
A Family Business With a Global Reach
What started as a Tasmanian family business has grown into an operation serving customers and markets beyond Australia.
Blue Hills became the first Australian firm to export honey to Japan in 1960, marking an important milestone in the family’s history.
Our Family Values
From the beginning, producing high-quality honey has been central to our family business.
We believe good beekeeping starts with caring for our bees.
Every generation contributes to the continuing Blue Hills story.
Our family, our farm and our honey are deeply connected to this island.
A History of Growth
A family passion, a Tasmanian legacy. From humble beginnings to sharing Tasmanian honey with the world, our journey has always been about people, bees and a commitment to quality.
